I'm not sure I agree with the title of this SlashDot article: Microsoft Proclaims Death of Free Software Model. They throw out some interesting quotes, including a couple that wouldn't pass muster with most folks that actually think about what's being said. The Microsoft National Systems Engineer from the UK says that people aren't using open-source because it's better, just that Microsoft hasn't done a good job of licensing and their poor relationship with customers. They also talk about TCO. Sounds like they are still fighting with FUD to me. Why would someone like Orbitz use Linux (or BSD) when they could be using Windows? Maybe because it does a better job, at a better cost, at least that's what their managers are saying. Certainly they looked at Microsoft's products, but decided that Linux was the better.
