Here's an interesting story: Crime gangs extort money with hacking threat. Seems that some Eastern European criminals are turning to DDOS attacks against online systems in an attempt to extort money from them. Given the losses (up to 1 million pounds a day) -vs- the payoffs (around 50-60 thousand) one wonders what's to stop them from continuing with this trend. Not only that, a DDOS attack is very time consuming to actually stop.
