Wednesday, November 12, 2003 The bizarre files continue with this SlashDot article on how: GameSpy Sends DMCA-Based C&D To Security Researcher. The funny part is that the researcher is based in Italy and therefore not subject to US DCMA laws. He's also tried to contact them to fix the problems but to no avail. Thier response is to sue him to stop telling folks about the problem(s). Update: There's a response from the GameSpy folks basically saying that since he also posts information on how to crack CD keys he's not a responsible investigator. They address the exploits by saying that they worked with him for a while but then asked him to remove the code to Crack the Keys and he didn't so they can no longer work with him. Wonder who's right here?? Is GameSpy just using the CD key cracking software as a ruse, or is this guy just not trustworthy? Point is, if he can show a flaw in the software and GameSpy doesn't address it that's wrong also. Two wrongs don't make a right... posted by David | 11/12/2003 05:29:00 PM |
