Net Manager Network Managing, Engineering and Administration with an eye toward security. Best practices meets the real world! |
Monday, July 14, 2003 If it's Monday, it must be whitepaper day :) A couple of different articles caught my attention recently. Security Focus has a excellent article on Credit Card hackers that came from a HonyeNet incident entitled: Honeynet: Carders are Getting Bold. The 'carders' as the article calls them can not only verify the credit card, they can pull the credit limit and the security ident number from the back of the card. Scary stuff, it seems that it's just a matter of time before your own card gets hacked. Be sure to read the acutal HoneyNet report itself!!! A couple of folks have mentioned it, including on the VulnWatch and Full-Disclosure Mailing Lists, and over at cNet news. Shatter attacks are the soup-de-jour. Here's a link to an article by Oliver Lavery at iDefense that sums up shatter attacks and why one bug fix ain't going to resolve it for some time. Interesting reading, though this one is infinitely more complex than the credit card article above. posted by David | 7/14/2003 09:46:00 AM |
