Wednesday, May 14, 2003 Here's an eWeek article about a HIDS (Host Based Intrusion Detection System): Entercept Upgrade Padlocks Servers. I'm not a big fan of some of the commercial security software, mostly because they are closed-source, closed-documentation (as to the internals), and they can be just as vulnerable as anything else. For example, someone could add to a root-kit the ability to detect this HIDS and block access by the HIDS to the root-kit trojans.
